School Readiness Starts Early |
 |
|
For children to do well in school, parents and caregivers must recognize that learning and development starts long before the first day of school: at home, in child care and in preschool. |
 |
 |
What can you do to promote school readiness?
- Recognize that your child is born ready to learn.
- Provide healthy food and sit down to meals regularly with your child.
- Provide a safe, secure environment in which your child may grow, learn and explore.
- Read to your child every day. Ask questions and talk as you read.
- Help your child make friends and be social by providing opportunities to play with adults and other children.
- Allow your child to learn at the rate that is best for him or her.
- Provide toys and activities that help your child learn and develop at each age.
- If you have concerns about your child's development, seek out resources or specialists for help.
